In a continued effort to champion inclusivity, SM Supermalls has launched ‘Movies for the Blind’, a special screening series aimed at providing visually impaired individuals with an immersive cinematic experience. In collaboration with Project ADAM (Audio Description Awareness Movement), this initiative features audio-descriptive technology, which narrates key visual elements of the film to enhance the viewing experience for those with visual impairments.
The screenings are being held across multiple SM malls nationwide, with the culminating event scheduled for August 2 at SM Megamall, in celebration of White Cane Safety Day.

A More Inclusive Movie Experience
The audio-descriptive screenings allow visually impaired guests to follow the storyline by hearing descriptions of visual scenes, such as the appearance of characters and key actions. The featured film for the screenings, Firefly (2023), was carefully chosen for its heartwarming fantasy storytelling and inspiring message, making it an ideal choice for all families to enjoy together.
“Everyone deserves to enjoy the magic of cinema. Through ‘Movies for the Blind’, we are not just screening films—we are creating meaningful experiences where individuals with visual impairments feel valued and included,” said Jezer M. Gutierrez, assistant mall manager of SM City Davao.
Nationwide Reach and Impact
The initiative has already made its mark at SM City Davao, SM City Legazpi, and SM City Calamba (March 22), with upcoming events scheduled at SM City Cebu and SM City Baguio on April 26.
In partnership with Project ADAM, GMA Network, and local communities, SM Supermalls is reinforcing its commitment to creating inclusive spaces where everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy entertainment and feel welcomed.
