President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has reassured the public of the financial stability of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), emphasizing that the agency has sufficient funds to continue providing essential healthcare services to its members. This announcement was made during the Trabaho at Serbisyong Pangkalusugan sa Bagong Pilipinas fair held at the Antipolo Sports Hub in Antipolo City, Rizal.
Strengthening Healthcare Access
Marcos addressed public concerns regarding PhilHealth’s finances, stating, “Many are worried because they say that PhilHealth has no funds to help our sick people. That is not true.” He highlighted that the agency has continued to enhance its benefit packages and healthcare offerings to better serve Filipinos.
“PhilHealth has increased its payments for insurance, and it is offering more services,” Marcos added, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing more accessible and comprehensive healthcare.
He also emphasized that PhilHealth plays a pivotal role in reducing the financial burden of medical expenses. “Sometimes, getting medical treatment can be very expensive, but PhilHealth is there to receive all your information, store it in their data center, and provide you with a PhilHealth ID,” he said.
Legal and Policy Developments
The assurance comes amid the conclusion of Supreme Court oral arguments on the proposed transfer of PHP 89.9 billion in excess PhilHealth funds to the national treasury. Finance Secretary Ralph Recto backed the transfer, calling it “legal, moral, and economically sound.”
In addition, PhilHealth announced plans to increase its hospital cost coverage for members from the current levels to 18 percent by 2025 and to 28 percent by 2028. The expansion will be supported by new benefit packages that include coverage for ischemic heart disease, peritoneal dialysis, kidney transplantation, preventive oral health services, and outpatient emergency care.
Continued Commitment to Public Health
PhilHealth also confirmed a 50-percent adjustment in its case rate packages this year, further expanding financial access to healthcare. With these measures, President Marcos emphasized that PhilHealth remains a dependable and proactive partner in ensuring the health and well-being of all Filipinos.
This development highlights the government’s commitment to health security, ensuring that every Filipino has access to affordable and quality medical services through a financially sound and responsive PhilHealth system. via PNA
