Huawei has officially launched its highly anticipated Mate XT smartphone, a groundbreaking ‘tri-folding’ device that has captured global attention. Unveiled on Tuesday during a global launch event, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is being hailed as a new class of smartphones, offering not one, but two unfolding mechanisms that transform it from a regular phone into a full-sized tablet.
First introduced in China in October 2024, the Mate XT is the world’s first smartphone that can trifold, expanding from a 6.4-inch standard-sized phone to a 7.9-inch mini tablet, and then unfolding again into a 10.2-inch full-sized tablet. The device is also the first to feature both inward and outward folds, offering unparalleled versatility.
In single screen mode, the Mate XT offers a resolution of 2232 × 1008 pixels. When in dual screen mode, the resolution increases to 2232 × 2048 pixels, and in triple screen mode, the display expands to a massive 2232 × 3184 pixels. This allows for an immersive experience for a variety of activities, from business calls to leisure browsing to editing documents on a tablet-like screen.
Andreas Zimmer, Huawei’s Head of Product, highlighted the device’s potential for business travelers, saying it’s the perfect all-in-one gadget for productivity. “Imagine being able to take calls, reply to messages on a single screen, browse the web on a dual screen, and edit reports on a fully extended triple screen — it’s a game-changer for business on the go,” Zimmer shared during the event in Kuala Lumpur.

Despite its innovative three-screen design, the Mate XT maintains a remarkably slim profile. When folded, the device measures just 12.8mm in thickness, and when unfolded, the two panels are a sleek 3.6mm each. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which folds once, is 12.1mm thick.
In terms of camera capabilities, the Mate XT doesn’t compromise on quality. The device boasts a 50-megapixel main camera with an adjustable physical aperture that offers 10 sizes and 5.5x optical zoom, ensuring you never miss important moments with its professional-grade photography features.
The Mate XT is powered by a 5,600 mAh battery, 16GB of memory, and a whopping 1TB of storage, ensuring users can store and run high-performance apps without worrying about space or battery life.
Huawei has confirmed that the Mate XT will soon be available in the Philippines, although a local launch date and pricing have yet to be announced.
This tri-folding marvel is set to redefine the way we think about smartphones, bringing cutting-edge technology and unprecedented versatility to users worldwide. Keep an eye out for its arrival in the Philippines!
