Globe Telecom to Enhance Connectivity in 100 Remote Towns with New Infrastructure

Globe Telecom Inc., a leading telco-to-tech provider, is expanding its network by building cellular sites in 100 geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) across the Philippines in 2025. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and provide essential connectivity services to underserved communities.

Commitment to Digital Inclusion

Globe currently operates cell sites in at least 600 GIDAs and plans to reach 700 by year-end. Chief Commercial Officer Darius Delgado highlighted the importance of connectivity, stating, “Connectivity is a fundamental enabler of progress. By expanding our network infrastructure in GIDAs, we are unlocking access to education, health, and economic opportunities for millions of Filipinos.”

Support for Government Connectivity Goals

This expansion aligns with Globe’s commitment to the government’s Connectivity Plan Task Force (CPTF), aiming to install 1,050 new towers in remote areas between 2025 and 2028. These efforts are expected to positively impact approximately 12 million Filipinos.

Infrastructure Investments and Funding

Although Globe’s capital expenditures for 2025 will be below $1 billion, the company remains committed to enhancing network coverage. Recently, Globe secured P10 billion in term loans from BDO Unibank Inc. and Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. to support infrastructure upgrades, debt refinancing, and general corporate requirements.

In 2024, Globe installed 1,212 new cell towers and upgraded 4,613 existing sites to LTE, reflecting its continued dedication to enhancing connectivity nationwide.
