Excitement Builds as 2025 PRISAA National Games Kicks Off with Athletics Competitions

The 2025 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games officially commenced on Monday at the Cagayan Sports Complex, with 19 gold medals at stake during the initial day of athletics competitions. This prestigious event brings together more than 8,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from 17 regions across the country, highlighting exceptional athletic talent and spirited competition.

Day 1 Highlights: Thrilling Athletics Action

The opening day’s athletics schedule began with several exciting morning events, including the men’s and boys’ 5,000-meter races, women’s and girls’ shot put, and men’s and boys’ long jump. The intensity continues into the afternoon session, featuring highly anticipated competitions such as the men’s shot put, women’s long jump, women’s and girls’ 100-meter hurdles, men’s and boys’ 110-meter hurdles, and the fiercely contested 400-meter races for boys, girls, men, and women.

Besides track and field, spectators at the Cagayan Sports Complex also enjoyed events in 3×3 basketball, softball, tennis, and swimming, making for an action-packed opening day.

Comprehensive Sports Line-Up

Athletics is just one of many sports showcased during the games. The competition also includes events in archery, badminton, baseball, traditional basketball (5×5), beach volleyball, boxing, chess, dancesport, football, gymnastics, karatedo, sepak takraw, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis, indoor volleyball, and weightlifting.

Memorable Opening Ceremony

A vibrant opening ceremony officially kicked off the games, highlighted by the ceremonial torch relay led by Lerma Elmira Bulauitan-Gabito, a two-time Olympian and celebrated long jumper from Cagayan. PRISAA national president Ester Susan Perez-Mari, representing Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), ignited the ceremonial urn, symbolically marking the beginning of the competitions.

Promoting Grassroots Athletic Development

The PRISAA National Games play a critical role in nurturing grassroots sports development, providing young Filipino athletes a national platform to demonstrate their capabilities. These events serve as vital stepping stones for athletes aiming for national recognition and potentially advancing to international and Olympic-level competitions.
