The Department of Transportation (DOTr) clarified on Sunday that there is no current security advisory issued by U.S. authorities against Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) or any other Philippine airport. This statement comes after confusion caused by the circulation of an outdated advisory from 2018, mistakenly reposted at Sacramento International Airport in California.
Clarification of Advisory Status
According to DOTr, the advisory circulating online dates back to December 2018 and was officially rescinded by the U.S. government in August 2019. The misunderstanding arose after an airline inadvertently reposted the outdated notice, creating unnecessary concern among travelers and the general public.
The New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC), responsible for managing NAIA operations, promptly coordinated with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to address the confusion. TSA officials confirmed the error and immediately withdrew the outdated advisory from circulation, affirming there are currently no new security advisories against NAIA.
TSA’s Recent Security Assessment
The TSA regularly conducts bi-annual security assessments of international airports, including NAIA. The most recent evaluation conducted in February 2025—the first since 2019—revealed no new security issues, confirming significant improvements in the airport’s security protocols.
Government Assurance on Airport Safety
DOTr reassured travelers that the Philippine government continues to prioritize airport security, closely collaborating with international partners to maintain rigorous safety standards. This commitment underscores ongoing efforts to ensure safe and secure travel experiences for passengers transiting through Philippine airports.
