The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a scam where individuals falsely claim to be garbage collectors from CENRO in order to solicit money. This fraudulent activity involves scammers going door-to-door, asking for donations or money for garbage collection services, which are not part of CENRO’s official operations.
Engr. Lakandiwa Orcullo, Acting Division Head of CENRO’s Environmental Waste Management Division, clarified in an interview on Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) that these individuals are not affiliated with CENRO. “We have already cross-checked their names with our masterlist and roster of employees, and they are not on it. These individuals do not represent our office, and they do not have the right to solicit any amount from the public,” Orcullo said.
According to CENRO, solicitation and the acceptance of gifts or donations from the public is a violation of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. As a government office, CENRO adheres to strict ethical standards, and any employee found soliciting money or donations will face disciplinary actions.
This is not the first time such incidents have been reported. In December 2024, CENRO also received reports through the Davao City Reports (DCR) about individuals soliciting funds for a Christmas party, falsely claiming to be affiliated with the office.
Dabawenyos are advised to remain vigilant and to verify any correspondence or notices that claim to come from CENRO or any other government agency. If anyone encounters such solicitation or suspects fraudulent activities, they are urged to report it to the appropriate authorities immediately.
